CATEMACO MAGIC PLACE


Catemaco with 48,593 inhabitants in 2010 is one of the 212 municipalities of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located in the center of the Sierra de Los Tuxtlas, in the extreme southeast of the state center. Its capital is the city of Catemaco.
The municipality of Catemaco is located in the vicinity of a body namesake lake, Laguna de Catemaco is one of the major attractions for its gastronomic specialties lake (tegogolos, topotes, Catemaco sunfish and several endemic fish species) and as being a major center of ancestral tradition of witchcraft.



Tourism in Los Tuxtlas is mainly concentrated in the city of Catemaco, and less participation
Santiago Tuxtla and San Andres Tuxtla. Except during Easter and the start of
summer vacation,
usually no problem at rest in more than 150 hotels and other lodging establishments.

In high season, the beaches are filled absolutely Montepio and La Barra. Less busy are beaches
encantandoras as Salinas, Balzapote and the beaches of the Sierra Santa Marta.

ACCOMMODATION

Los Tuxtlas holds more than 100 accommodations with thousands of beds and hammocks in a wide
ranging from 4 stars to camps in the jungle. Most are in Catemaco.

If you spend visiting during Holy Week, or on a bridge, bring a tent,
  as the city and the Gulf beaches are filled.

Hotels have seasonal rates. Quotes are for research and seem to change
faster than we can go through the hotels. A lower rate or higher
may be in effect at the time of your visit. Rates listed are for double.

TO EAT
There are some seafood specialties Catemaco that are worthy of mention:

topotes
Pescaditos oven roasted and eaten whole, almost like potato chips.

tegogolos
Freshwater snails, native of Laguna Catemaco, usually served with the same sauce that cocktails of
shrimp. It is presumed that are aphrodisiacs.

Catemaco Mojarras
These are good! Now are usually a mojarra tilapia species introduced from Africa, raised on farms and are better
if served whole.

Anguilla Minilla
Lagoon Eels cooked in minilla seasoned, dried, and served with tortillas.

And of course the famous dish is monkey meat. Since monkeys are almost extinct today that meat in
actually smoked roast pork.But do not tell that to anyone!

The street greengrocers are available everywhere and are delicious. Try a mix of passion fruit yogurt
