CUBA

10 tips you should know

If you are thinking of visiting Cuba, in this note we propose a list of 10 tips so that you can organize your stay and enjoy this Caribbean island to the fullest.

1- MAKE A LUGGAGE AS COMPLETE AS POSSIBLE

When packing your suitcase, do not forget to put everything you consider necessary in your suitcase. In Cuba it is difficult to find some products. If you travel to the most touristic destinations you will find several stores but the prices are usually very high. For example, a bottle of shampoo will cost you at least $ 100 mx. So if you can bring these products with you, you will save a few pesos.

2- BRING A COMPLETE KIT, BLOCKER AND MOSQUITO REPELLENT

The second very important tip if you travel to Cuba is to bring a complete first-aid kit. In Cuba, pharmacies do not have many things and it can sometimes be difficult to find basic medicines such as ibuprofen, paracetamol or aspirin.

In your suitcase it is a good idea to add sunscreen and mosquito repellent, since if you travel in the rainy season or on the coast, there are mosquitoes. We recommend that you take these two products with you because they are very expensive in Cuba. The sunscreen will cost you approximately $ 300 mxn the bottle and the repellent is not easily found.

3- AVOID BRINGING AMERICAN DOLLARS

If you arrive in Cuba with US dollars, when changing your money into Cuban pesos, they will charge you a commission of 10%. If you can, it is better to arrive in Cuba with another currency so they do not charge you anything.

4-BRING A MAP OF CUBA OR DOWNLOAD AN APP WITH GPS WITHOUT THE INTERNET NEED

Since you will not have Internet at your disposal at all hours, we advise you previously to buy a map of Cuba or download one through the Maps.me application. This application allows you to locate yourself and make itineraries without needing an Internet connection.

5-DO NOT LOSE YOUR VISA OR YOU WILL BE FINED

As you already know, it is mandatory to enter Cuba to acquire a visa. It can be done through an Internet page, at an embassy or directly at the airport and is valid for 30 days. It is very very important that you keep this document well because if you do not lose you will be fined. We recommend you in a safe place and take a photo of it.

6- GET AROUND WITH A TAXI FROM THE 50's - 60'S

When you arrive in Cuba, they are everywhere and in all colors. These old cars from the years 1950-1960, the Cubans call them "almendrones."

Some are taxis to get around the city and others give you commented tours to discover the city. It is a cheaper option than the yellow taxis. They work like the buses can stop on the way to take more people.

7- BUY A PLUG ADAPTER

In Cuba the plugs are like in Mexico. If you come from a country that does not have this type of plug, we recommend you buy one before your trip.

8- DO NOT DRINK THE WATER FROM THE TAP

Tap water is not drunk in Cuba. You will have to buy bottles of water or you can use pills that they sell to purify the water.

9-TRY THE FAMOUS CUBAN MOJITO

They say that the mojito was invented "La Bodeguita del Medio" in Havana.

Since 1950 it has been an emblematic restaurant in the Cuban capital and also a very famous place where many tourists go. There you will find the cult culbana drink for about 5 CUC. If you visit other less frequented places you can find very tasty mojitos for just 1.50 CUC.

10- DANCE SALSA IN A BAR

If you go to Cuba you cannot stop dancing salsa, or learn a few steps. In all Cuban cities you will find places where they play music and dance the night away. These places are frequented by tourists but also by many Cubans, much better to learn this famous Latin dance.

These are some tips that we give you in case your next trip is in Cuba.
