Chignahuapan is a city located in the northern part of the state of Puebla. Its name comes from the Nahuatl words Chicñahui, meaning "nine"; atl, meaning "water"; and bread suffix, meaning 'about', 'in'. Altogether means "on the nine waters." In pre-Hispanic times, the area occupied by the present town of Chignahuapan region was inhabited by Totonac peoples from about the seventh century AD. C., getting to exercise control over the region until the tenth century, however, during this period there was a coexistence between peoples Totonac, Nahua, Otomi and Tepehuas
