BEST PLACES TO VERACRUZ, MEXICO

In the Gulf of Mexico , is located one of the most iconic , rich and colorful cities of the country for its history and culture. We refer to the famous port of Veracruz.

From Spanish colonization to date, there has been a strategic area for the country that is
characterized by the flow of goods from around the world .

It is notable for being the first city in America founded by European colonists, who used it once for boarding which the wealth of the New World and as input for the conquest of Tenochtitlan.

Currently the Port of Veracruz is one of the most popular resorts for domestic and foreign visitors .

Here are some of the attractions that have brought international fame :

Fort of San Juan de Ulua.

The fort was built to defend the city from the continuous attacks and looting by pirates who were attracted by gold and other riches . He became a temporary seat of government of the Republic , and ultimately , prison was famous characters like Chucho el Roto , a type of Mexican Robin Hood who stole from the rich to benefit the poor .

Location : 10 minutes north of downtown .

Plaza Mayor.

The base is home to two of the most beautiful harbor buildings : City Hall and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption. Built in the seventeenth century , are the oldest and best preserved buildings of the time .

On the outskirts of the square are numerous websites with some restaurants offering traditional delights of Veracruz excellent food. Also often rallying point for popular events that take place there , including the famous dances Danzon or " footwork " of jarochos sones . City Museum .

Paseo del Malecón .

Definitely one of the favorite tourism tours is the tour of the boardwalk. The essence and the Buenos Aires live vibe to the surface along this corridor. Traders, musicians and walkers are mixed in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere. The sight of cargo ships moving from here is spectacular .

Grand Cafe La Parroquia .

One of the social reference port . Famous for his " milk " (coffee with milk) and for being the oldest Mexico Café , has been about meeting important people in the public and private life of Veracruz society . To date, the Café retains the huge coffee that have always distinguished . The traditional way to order a " dairy " is striking with a spoon in the glass cup to be served , then the waiter will come to help you.

Veracruz Aquarium.

The spectacular aquarium is located on the sea and marine life exhibits in their different habitats. It is the largest in Latin America and has rooms designed to understand the fragility of these ecosystems. Its amazing ponds provide a unique visual experience that host species .

Visiting hours: Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 19:00 hrs. and Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:30 hrs.

La Antigua.

It is a small town located just 28 miles from the Port of Veracruz. He served as a major supplier to the Iberian Peninsula, as for many years , their port activity was intense in the transport of goods from New Spain. At the present retains several historic buildings such as the house of the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés.
Location: 28 km north of the port direction taking Highway 180.

Playa Mocambo beach and Chachalacas

Two of the most frequented by tourists, in them you can practice some water sports beaches. Mocambo Beach has many hotels and seafood restaurants . Definitely a good option for family recreation . As Chachalacas beach , offers a spectacular view with its sand dunes that dominate the landscape .
Location : beach Mocambo is located in the municipality of Boca del Rio while Chachalacas beach is located 15 km. port
